Kat Hasty was writing songs before she could put a pen to paper. ''All I ever wanted was to be a writer. Everything else was an afterthought,'' said Hasty. ''I never knew I would go on tour or be part of the business. I was just writing to deal with life.'' Raised, and still rooted in West Texas, her songs have been shaped by the desolation of the desert, the rough and rowdy crowd that comes through these small oil towns, and early signs of depression and an ever present sense of melancholy. Her breakout moment arrived with 2021's ''Pretty Things,'' a song that took off online and led to touring the US and Europe, accolades in press and a distribution deal with Thirty Tigers. But Kat's journey didn't really start in the spotlight - it started with long hours learning Logic, a cinderblock bathroom in lieu of a recording studio, and a mic she purchased with her earnings from part-time jobs. The result was her debut project, Drowning in Dreams, an EP that resonated far beyond what she could have imagined that earned her a wave of dedicated listeners.
