The Rega AOS MC ( Moving Coil ) is a dedicated moving coil phono-stage designed to work with a wide range of MC cartridges. Its circuit design is based heavily on Rega’s reference Aura MC phonostage, with adjustable loading and gain options that allow it to be matched to different cartridge requirements.
The AOS MC uses a two-stage all-analog amplifier with no digital control circuitry. Its fully aluminum half-width case helps screen the internal circuit from stray RFI, while the circuit layout avoids unnecessary components in the signal path. A self-adjusting servo control compensates for variations in ambient or operating temperature.
The first stage uses parallel-connected, low-noise FETs configured as a compound pair, with no bias current flowing in the cartridge coil. The MC input provides selectable resistive loading from 70 Ω to 400 Ω, capacitive loading from 1,000 pF to 4,300 pF, and a 6 dB input sensitivity adjustment via the rear panel. Automatic standby is included and can be deactivated using rear-panel DIP switches.
The second stage is a symmetrical, class A, differential amplifier with a common base driver stage; this is also used as the active amplifier in the low-frequency part of the RIAA equalization stage.
